PANCHAMABHOOT/ Panchtatvas according to Ayurveda

Five elements in Ayurveda:-

  • Akash ( Space)
  • Vayu ( Air )
  • Agni (Fire)
  • Jal ( Water)
  • Prathvi ( Earth)

These are the five elements in Ayurveda which are very important for each and every thing in nature and space to be in its state. The five elements are therefore independent entities and exist in an intimate relation to each element, which governs and is governed by another elements.

  1. Akash mahabhoot ( Space)

Akash mahabhoot is the first mahabhoot. It is originated from shabad tanmatra”. Everything in the material universe consist of ether; and matter itself being in all – possibility one of its modifications. Being built up of electron and proton whose constitution has not yet been ascertained. — Encyclopaedia.

Akashatmak bhawa in body – All empty space in body, Arteries, Veins, Space in bones , space inside organs.

2. Vayu Mahabhoot ( Air)

Vayu is the second mahabhoot after Akash . Akash mahabhoot help in the origin of Vayu. It is originated from ” Shabad tanmatra and Sparsha tanmatra” . As Vayu has a sound and we can feel it through skin. Any kind of movement in body is due to Vayu Guna.

Vayumahaboot bhawa in body- Touch, Breath, Movement of Body, blood, feaces, food inside body.

3.Tej or Agani Mahabhoot ( Fire)

Vayu mahabhoot originate Agni mahabhoot. It is originated from ” Shabad tanmatra, and Saparsha tanmatra, Roop tanmatra”. Roop tanmatra is the additional properties in Agani Mahabhoot, as it can be seen through eyes. Motion that is arrested produces under different circumstances heat, electricity, magnetism and light.

Agnitartwa bhawa in body – Eyesight, color of body, Heat in the body, Digestion of food, Anger, Mind Power.

4. Jal Mahabhoot ( Water)

Jal mahabhoot is originated with the help of Agni mahabhoot. It is originated from ” Shabad tanmatra, Roop tanmatra , Saparsha tanmatra and Rasa tanmatra“. Raas is the main property in Jal Mahabhoot. It can be seen, can be tasted, and we can touch it too.

Jal mahabhoot bhawa in body- Sweat, Boold, Semen, Oil of body, Urine, Taste buds.

5. Parithvi Mahabhoot ( Earth)

Jal solidify to become Parithvi Mahabhoot. It is originated from ” Shabad tanmatra, Roop tanmatra, Raas tanmatra ,Gandha tanmatra and Saparsha tanmatra “. Gandh is main property in Parithvi Mahabhoot, as it has a sweet fragrance.

Prithvi bhawa in body- Sense to smell, smell of Body, Nails, Bones.
